Policy

As defined in HR Policy 2-6, Employment Status, Part Time A employees are those employees who are scheduled to work 30 hours per week and are eligible for Loyola University benefits. They are eligible for prorated vacation, sick and holiday pay as well as health & welfare benefits such as medical, dental, life insurance, etc., and are eligible for tuition remission the same as regular full-time employees. The Director of Human Resources, in consultation with the department head, is responsible for determining which positions qualify for 30 hours per week.

Procedure

Part Time A or benefit eligible employees accrue vacation and sick leave based upon working 30 hours per week which is similar to the rate of a twelve-month employee. They are also paid their regularly-scheduled hours for any designated University holiday that occurs on days the employee is scheduled to work. For example, if a 30-hour employee is scheduled to work on Thanksgiving (which is a recognized University holiday), the employee will receive holiday pay for that day. Conversely, the employee will not be eligible for holiday pay if they are not normally scheduled to work on a day that a University holiday is observed.

Employees who abuse University leave policies and procedures may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Employee contributions for benefits are collected at the same rate as full-time employees.
