Welcome to Loyola University New Orleans. At Loyola we take pride in being recognized as a safe and secure learning environment. The Department of Public Safety/University Police shares that credit with you. As you should know, security and safety is every ones responsibility and it takes a team effort to maintain our safe campus. We thank everyone who helps us by being our extra eyes and ears on our two campuses and reports to us any thing that may be suspicious or out of the ordinary. Here at Loyola University we all look out for each other and we work together as a community using awareness as our top priority in fighting crime. This coupled with preventive measures and effective enforcement helps keep Loyola University New Orleans the safe place it has always been.
University Police Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Officers patrol both campuses on foot, on bicycles, and in marked and unmarked vehicles. All University Police Officers are P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Council certified and are commissioned University Police Officers by the state of Louisiana. Officers are graduates of state-approved police academies and many are college graduates or are pursuing their college degrees. All officers are certified in CPR and First Aid. The department includes a full time crime prevention officer and an investigator.
There are 32 Blue Light emergency telephones in various strategic locations on both campuses. In addition there is also a 911 emergency telephone service. Throughout the campus, Public Safety utilizes various electronic systems, including: CCTV, card access control, and fire and intrusion alarms to enhance the safety of the Loyola community.
The Department of Public Safety/University Police provides a number of services for students including 24-hour safety escorts, shuttle vans between the two campuses, motorist vehicle assistance (i.e. battery jumps, unlocking locked vehicles, etc.), property engraving, lost and found repository, free bicycle registration, fingerprinting service, crime prevention and awareness programs, and the collection and dissemination of crime information and statistics.
