Up to three days of paid bereavement leave will be provided to eligible full-time employees who suffer a death in their immediate family. Employees may, with their supervisor’s approval, use any available paid vacation leave for additional time off as necessary.


Employees who wish to take time off due to the death of an immediate family member should notify their supervisor as soon as possible.

For the purpose of bereavement leave, “immediate family” is defined as the employee’s spouse, significant other, parent, step-parent or guardian, child or step-child, sibling or step-sibling, grandparent or grandchild, and parents-in-law, grandparents-in-law, and siblings-in-law.

Employees who abuse University leave policies and procedures may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
